Three Reasons to Combine Liposuction with a Tummy Tuck
Abdominoplasty, frequently called a Tummy Tuck or TT for short, is a very common operation for women to help correct the changes in the tummy skin, fat and muscles after pregnancies and sometimes after losing large amounts of weight.
Liposuction is also a very common procedure and is done to help sculpt those problem bulges that don’t respond easily to diet and exercise. Some of the common areas treated are the tummy, love handles, outer thighs, upper-inner thighs and inner knees.
It’s common that women undergoing a Tummy Tuck would also benefit from Liposuction. Not only is it easy to combine the two operations of Liposuction and Tummy Tuck, but there are significant advantages in doing the two together. Read below to learn more.
Less Time Away from Work and Other Priorities
The Tummy Tuck usually requires about two weeks off work. Liposuction patients usually take five to seven days off work. Doing both allows you to recover from both at the same time, therefore saving most patients at least a week or more. For many patients who are parents, or working, (or both!), decreasing time spent away from family or job responsibilities is a priority.
Less Pain
Tummy Tucks are fairly painful in the first few days requiring heavy duty pain medications. Liposuction is not as painful as the Tummy Tuck and the discomfort of the Liposuction is hardly noticed while on the TT medications. If done separately the Liposuction patient is going to need a few days of pain medication for that separate operation.
Less Expensive
Plastic surgeons frequently combine procedures and when they do the secondary operation, in this case Liposuction, the costs are less. This is because fees like the surgeon’s fee, the anesthesia fee and the surgical suite fee are all paid for once in the combined procedure instead of two separate times, often saving $2,000 or more.
So for the woman who wants a Tummy Tuck and would also benefit from the contouring Liposuction can provide, it makes sense for many reasons to get the procedures done at the same time.
