Lower Body Lift in Portland
For many patients, a lower body lift can put the finishing touches on a post-weight loss body. Massive weight loss, although a major accomplishment, often results in loose, sagging skin that no longer contracts well over the body. By removing excess skin and tissue from body areas such as the hips, buttocks, thighs and abdomen, a more attractive appearance is restored. Body lift patients often report feeling an array of physical and psychological relief following the procedure. Exercise becomes easier and more comfortable, clothes fit better and patients experience a boost in self-confidence in how they look and feel.
Respected Portland plastic surgeon Dr. Ronald DeMars has years of experience performing various body contouring procedures, including lower body lift, helping patients restore their self-confidence and quality of life. If you wish to transform your body with a body lift, schedule a consultation with Dr. DeMars today.
Is Lower Body Lift Right for You?
Lower body lift surgery is ideal for individuals who have lost a substantial amount of weight through diet and exercise or bariatric surgery and have been left with unsightly loose rolls of excess skin on the thighs, buttocks, abdomen, hips and lower back. Patients with loose skin as a result of the natural aging process or genetic factors can also benefit from body lift surgery. The procedure can also remove excess body tissue and tighten muscles, creating a svelte silhouette.
It is important to note that body lift surgery is not an appropriate tool for weight loss. However, small isolated pockets of fat may be removed through liposuction, a surgical body fat removal procedure. Prior to your treatment, Dr. DeMars will meet with you to discuss your aesthetic concerns and goals in order to make his recommendations on the treatment(s) that best achieves your desired outcome.
Procedure Details
Lower body lift is performed under general anesthesia, typically as an outpatient procedure. The specific incisions made will depend on the body areas that will be operated on. For thigh lifts, an incision will be made in the inner thigh in order to remove excess skin and tighten the remaining skin. For simultaneous lifting of the thighs and buttocks, Dr. DeMars will make incisions similar to a bikini pattern. Dr. DeMars will remove excess skin and tighten the skin and muscles in the abdomen, groin, waist, thigh, and buttock. If necessary, Dr. DeMars may remove excess fat via liposuction for tighter, slimmer body contours. Once finished, Dr. DeMars will close the incisions using sutures. Drain tubes may be placed at the incisions to draw out fluids.
Recovering from Lower Body Lift
Immediately following surgery, Dr. DeMars will place compression garments on and drain tubes in the treated area or areas. For the first few weeks, you may notice some swelling in the treated area or areas. There may also be some redness and bruising in treated areas, which should subside within a few weeks after surgery. Dr. DeMars can prescribe pain medication to alleviate any discomfort during recovery. Over time, your incision scars will fade, most of which can be hidden by clothing or natural skin creases.
The doctor will also give you specific instructions to follow during your recovery including how to care for your incisions, drainage tubes, and tips on bathing, sleeping positions and when to resume exercise and other activities. It may take several months for your body to obtain its final shape. Once completely healed, you will notice a smaller figure and more attractive contours.
