Neck Lift in Portland

With over 30 years of experience, Dr. Ronald DeMars has helped hundreds of patients achieve their facial rejuvenation goals, including a slender, younger-looking neck. The trusted plastic surgeon understands that a smooth, taut neck can make someone look younger while a neck plagued by drooping skin and submental (chin) fat can add years to their appearance. If sagging, wrinkled skin on and around the neck is causing you to be self-conscious about your appearance, it may be time to consider neck lift surgery with Dr. DeMars.

Is Neck Lift Right for You?

As you age, your body produces less elastin and collagen, causing the skin to wrinkle and droop. More often than not, sagging skin affects the neck region, drooping off the bottom of the chin or surrounding areas and creating what is known as a “turkey wattle.” Loose sagging neck skin can also occur as a result of weight loss, while uncontrollable factors such as genetics can lead to pockets of subcutaneous fat (“double chin”) and form horizontal “bands” across the neck.

If you experience any of these issues, neck lift surgery can restore a youthful appearance to your facial appearance. Ideal neck lift candidates should be in good overall health and not smoke. Patients should also have realistic expectations on what neck lift can accomplish.

Procedure Details

Neck lift surgery with Dr. DeMars is performed under general anesthesia and as an outpatient procedure. Depending on the patient’s aesthetic concerns and goals, a neck lift may be combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures such as facelift, brow lift and eyelid surgery to reach optimum results. Prior to your surgery, Dr. DeMars will discuss with you your cosmetic concerns and goals in order to design the best treatment plan possible for you.

Neck lift surgery begins with Dr. DeMars making an incision in the neck region. The exact length, position, and pattern of the incision will depend on your anatomy and cosmetic concerns. After making the incisions, Dr. DeMars will remove surplus skin and alter the neck musculature as necessary. If there is unwanted fat, the doctor will use liposuction to remove it, creating a slender-looking neck area. Once done, Dr. DeMars will close the incisions with stitches and dress the treatment area with bandages.

Recovering from Neck Lift

For the first few days, you will notice some swelling and bruising on your neck and the surrounding areas. This is only temporary and should subside after a few days. To minimize discomfort, Dr. DeMars can prescribe pain medication for you to take. It is important to keep your head elevated above your chest to minimize swelling. Avoid bending, twisting or otherwise straining your neck as much as possible. Dr. DeMars will follow up with you on the days following your surgery to check on your healing progress. During your follow up appointments, Dr. DeMars can advise you on when it is safe to resume normal activities including work and exercise.

The results from your neck lift surgery will become more apparent once the swelling and bruising subside. Following your procedure, you will notice a smoother and rejuvenated appearance to not only your neck area but your overall facial appearance.
