Facelift Specialist in Portland

With time and age, the face can lose skin elasticity and firmness, experience fat displacement and sagging, and develop wrinkles and creases. If you have noticed visible signs of aging but still feel youthful inside, this can affect how you feel about yourself and how you believe you are being perceived by others.

Dr. DeMars has more than 30 years’ experience performing a variety of plastic surgery procedures, including facelift. He uses the latest surgical techniques to provide his Portland facelift patients with results that rejuvenate the face while looking completely natural.

What Does Facelift Correct?

What is a Facelift?

Facelift corrects the most common signs of facial aging, including:

  • Wrinkles
  • Nasolabial folds (creases from your nose to the corners of your mouth)
  • Displaced fat
  • Loss of volume around the cheeks
  • Sagging or excess skin
  • Jowls
  • Marionette lines (lines that extend from the corners of your mouth to your chin)
  • Double chin

Facelift techniques focus on the mid-face and lower areas of the face. If you would like to see more concentrated improvement around your forehead or eyes, Dr. DeMars can explore your forehead lift or eyelid surgery options in more detail during your consultation.

Your Facelift Consultation

During your consultation for facelift in Portland, Dr. DeMars will examine your facial features, noting the elasticity of your skin and other factors. He will ask you to describe what you would like to see improved. He will also ask you questions about your medical history and health status. Dr. DeMars will explain the procedure and how he plans to approach it in greater detail. He will discuss reasonable goals and expectations of surgery, and explain how to prepare for surgery. You are encouraged to ask any questions you may have.

The Surgery Details

A facelift is an outpatient procedure. You will receive anesthesia prior to the start of surgery so you remain comfortable throughout the procedure.

To begin, Dr. DeMars makes the surgical incisions along the hairline at the temples; the incisions may extend down in front of the ears and should be hidden in the lower hair-bearing scalp.  Through the incisions, he will lift the deeper layers of the face. He will redistribute misplaced fat (especially around the cheeks and cheekbones) to give the face more youthful looking contours. He will liposuction excess fat from the neck and jawline to give it a more streamlined appearance.

If you have discussed it ahead of time, Dr. DeMars may place facial implants to add volume to the cheeks or chin.

Excess skin will be removed, and the remaining skin will be tightened. Dr. DeMars will re-drape the skin more tightly over the underlying structures and close the incisions with sutures. Finally, he will dress the incisions and place a fluffy bandage around the face.

Recovering from Facelift

Dr. DeMars will provide detailed aftercare instructions for you to follow as you recover from your  facelift.

For the first few days, your face will be sore, swollen, and bruised. These side effects last only temporarily and will subside with time. To control swelling and prevent complications, you should keep your head elevated, even when you sleep. Avoid bending, lifting or straining. Take pain medication as prescribed by Dr. DeMars if you feel any discomfort.

Dr. DeMars will follow up with you to check on your healing progress, remove sutures, and suggest when to return to work, exercise and your normal routine.

Facelift FAQs

When will the results from my facelift become visible?

The results of your facelift surgery will become visible as post-operative swelling and bruising subside and the redness of the scars evens out. Most patients see improvement within one to two weeks after surgery, and the improvements will continue for up to two to three months.

What is the average cost of a facelift procedure?

The cost of a facelift varies based on different factors, including whether an additional plastic surgery procedure is incorporated into the operation. Dr. DeMars will provide a more accurate pricing quote during your personal consultation.

How long do the results of facelift surgery last?

Facelift results are generally long-lasting, but not permanent. Think of a facelift as turning back the clock, not stopping the clock altogether. The face continues to age normally, albeit at a slower pace.

How much time do I need to take off work?

Plan to take at least two weeks off from work after facelift surgery. At the two-week mark, swelling and bruising have calmed down considerably, and any visible side effects (including incision lines) can be concealed with makeup.

When can I get back to the gym and regular workouts?

Dr. DeMars will address this with you during a consultation. Most facelift patients return to the gym and regular workouts a month to six weeks after surgery. Sooner than that could cause complications.
