Top Cosmetic Procedures for the Holiday Season

Posted on October 16, 2018 by: Dr. Ronald DeMars

After so many years performing plastic surgery in Portland, Dr. Ronald DeMars has seen various trends develop in his practice. One of those trends is procedures for the holiday season. Among the most popular are:

  • Botox and Fillers
The most common nonsurgical treatments to get ready for all the holiday get-togethers and photos are centered around the face, of course. Botox has always been very popular as it takes effect quickly and lasts several months. With a few small injections, the lines on the forehead and above the nose and on the outer corners of the eyes (i.e., crow’s feet) can be erased, giving a fresh and rested look for those important family gatherings and photo ops, no matter how tired you actually are.

Fillers are injected to replace lost volume in the cheeks and sometimes the lips. The swelling can last a few days but the effect lasts months and can give a more youthful and sculpted look to facial contours.

  • Breast Enlargement
Creating a more aesthetic breast size and shape is always popular, but especially so around the holidays and into the spring. Of course, Dr. DeMars’ patients want to look good in the dressy holiday clothing and then be ready to go shopping for swimwear or vacation in the spring.
  • Blepharoplasty
Also known as eyelid rejuvenation, this is also one of the more frequent pre-holiday requests seen by Dr. DeMars. This is a surgical procedure that has a fairly easy recovery in the sense of little discomfort, but does have visible bruising and swelling that may take some time to resolve.  When looking ahead to holiday plans, patients usually want to have blepharoplasty before December, to allow plenty of time for an attractive, youthful, and bright-eyed look to develop.
  • Facelift
Facelift surgery to take the tired and aged look away and get back your look from 10 to 15 years ago has always been one of the most popular pre-holiday procedures and one of Dr. DeMars’ favorites. However, facelift does take some planning and is best done four to six weeks prior to any important event. Dr. DeMars loves hearing patients tell him the comments they hear about how good they look and asking why they never seem to age. It is a rare occasion when observers know it was a facelift that gave their friend the fresh and youthful look, as there are no telltale signs of surgery.

While many procedures are done before the holidays so that patients can look and feel their best for the festivities, some people prefer to undergo these procedures during the holidays because it’s when they get the most time off of work.

If you would like more details on these popular holiday procedures or have interest in any other cosmetic surgery procedures, you can make an appointment for a consultation with Dr. DeMars by calling his Portland office at 503-253-3458.
